As a devoted Liverpool FC fan, the news of Manchester United’s potential sale to a consortium led by Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani has left me with mixed emotions. While rivalries between clubs are an integral part of football, the thought of our arch-rivals receiving substantial financial backing from Qatar hurts a little,I can not lie.

First and foremost, the scale of the proposed deal is staggering. A price tag of over $6 billion would make it one of the biggest transactions in the history of sports. With this level of investment, Manchester United could potentially regain their status as serious title contenders, posing a significant threat to Liverpool’s ambitions of domestic and European glory.

Furthermore, the Glazer family’s decision to cash out and sell their stake in the club reinforces the financial advantage that Manchester United could gain from this deal.

The Glazers, who have been heavily criticized by their own fans, would be relinquishing their control over the club, which could potentially lead to a change in ownership philosophy and a more aggressive approach in the transfer market. I definitely already miss the good ol’ days.

While some may argue that this influx of Qatari investment could be the catalyst for closing the gap between Manchester United and our bitter rival Manchester City, there are valid concerns regarding the ethics and principles associated with ownership, but that’s a discussion for another day. Qatar’s involvement in sport has been met with skepticism in the past. Hosting the 2022 World Cup and owning Paris St Germain have already raised eyebrows, with the notion of “sportswashing” being a prevalent concern but that too is a discussion for another day.

Moreover, the financial backing provided by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) to the LIV Golf Series and Premier League team Newcastle United has already been a cause for debate. The potential synergy between Qatar and Saudi Arabia in terms of their influence in English football should be a concerning prospect for all supporters, as it could further tilt the balance of power in favor of none football enthusiasts.

While the business side of football is inevitable in the modern era, it is crucial to strike a balance between financial stability and the integrity of the sport. As a Liverpool fan, I cannot help but feel hurt about Manchester United potentially becoming even stronger through this Qatari investment. We must remain positive and hope that the future of football is shaped by fair competition, and strong football ethics.

Despite the concerns surrounding Manchester United’s potential sale and the financial backing they may receive, as passionate Liverpool fans, we cannot lose sight of our own club’s strengths and ambitions. Our history is steeped in resilience and triumph over adversity.

We have already shown our ability to compete with well-funded rivals, as demonstrated by our spirited battles with Manchester City in recent years. Our remarkable Premier League title victory in the 2019-2020 season stands as a testament to the fighting spirit and determination of our team, regardless of the financial resources at our disposal.

We have always thrived on the power of collective effort, teamwork, and effective resource management. While it may seem daunting to face another stronger opposition in the new Manchester United, we must remember that success on the football pitch is not solely determined by financial might. Our club’s ethos, history, and the unwavering support of our dedicated fanbase are intangible assets that money cannot buy.

Let us not forget the lessons from PSG’s past. Despite their significant investments, they have struggled to translate their resources into European success. Football is a game of strategy, skill, and chemistry on the field, and no amount of money can guarantee victory.

As Liverpool fans, we must continue to rally behind our team, our manager, and the values that define our club. We have seen the transformative power of unity, belief, and a never-say-die attitude. Let us embrace the challenge that may lie ahead and trust that our club will make the most of the resources available to us, utilizing them effectively to continue our pursuit of excellence.

In the face of increased financial backing for our rivals, we must remain resolute and never lose sight of the fact that our best weapon is the passion and dedication of the Liverpool family. Together, we will rise to the challenge, give our all, and continue to cherish the joy and excitement that this beautiful game brings us. The future holds infinite possibilities, and as Liverpool fans, we will face them head-on, united in our pursuit of glory.
